Artist's Description

While trying to find a remote camping spot, we got lost and found ourselves in a nearby reservation town. We stopped for directions near a fenced horse pasture and I had to take as many images as time allowed of the ungroomed horses there. When I looked at the image of a mare, I found such sadness in her eyes, and had to tell a story about her. Loss was in her eyes. It took a week of visualizations at bedtime before the story came together mentally for me.

The images of other horses in this composite were taken at a championship mounted shooting contest in Queen Creek, AZ, a few years ago. I transplanted the lady rider onto an image of Death Valley (not shown). The cemetery is from Tumacacori Monument in southern Arizona. The lady had significance as the horses former championship rider, but like all things, she departed the horses life. That is represented by the Tumacacory cemetery.

About Georgianne Giese

Georgianne Giese

Settling into the sunset of my life, I have returned to the love of imaging that drove me as a teenager. It's been a long journey, through motherhood (3 men and 9 grandchildren), religion, computer science career, and two wonderful marriages. It has emerged into a fuller awareness of the basic love within me, a true awareness of my real self, a spiritual awakening, and a desire to splurge with color and form, through the adventure of photography and digital imaging. I wish to express and share my appreciation for the art that is the world, through the use of focused expression in a direct image of the beauty in the world to the visual poetry of abstract impressionism through digital art.
